why a cfg?
executable config files are useful because 1. they cannot be overwritten by accident [for instance if you join an old server and your entire jampconfig file gets re-written!! just ask chode if you want a testimonial], 2. they can easliy be remapped to other keys, 3. it allows us to set up a toggle to swtich between configs, which is very useful since we only have a limited number of keys to bind to. 4.with config files you can have numerous binds remapped [even your whole set!] all from executing one file..
so how do you create a .cfg file?
a. first launch word pad
b. create a new file
c. enter in the content you wish to have in the file, bindings, vstrs, seta's, cvars etc.
d. then select the 'Save As...' feature from the file menu
e. change the 'Save as type' to 'All Files'
f. then chose a name in the following format <name>.cfg
g. save the file into your base folder and you are ready for the next step
h. once you are ingame you can execute the config file you made by typing in exec <name>
i. if you want to be really slick you can bind it to a key bind <key> exec <name>
once you exec the config file, the functions you set in the file [bindings etc] will appear in your jampconfig file. this proceedure will seem more useful later on when we cover setting up multiple config files and working with toggles when you want to change set ups rapidly in-game.
